Time: 09.30am-6.00pm
Cost: £94.50

What do you do when your clients want deeper massage work than you feel confident and competent to give? This workshop will provide you with the necessary tools to develop your deep tissue massage skills.

Course contents:

·        Your safety first: couch height, proper body positioning and posture

·        Working efficiently with reinforced fingers and thumbs

·        For deeper work – how to use forearms and elbows

·        Client positioning: prone, supine and side-lying work

·        How to use your couch for support to make your work easier

·        Focus will be on the back, neck, shoulders and gluteal area.

You will be taught how to work safely and effectively using all these different tools so that you can incorporate them into your own massage style. You will also be shown how varying your client’s positioning on the couch will allow you to access certain muscle groups better, making your treatments even more effective.

Throughout the day, you will be given 4 individual demonstrations of techniques and have plenty of opportunity between them to practice these techniques in your own time. It’s a fun and active day run in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Suitable for anyone with basic Swedish massage skills.

*Soft Tissue Release
Tutor: Tatina Semprini
Dates: 20th September 2008 or 6th December 2008
Fee: £94.50

Soft tissue release (STR) is a technique used to apply stretches to specific parts of a muscle rather than to the whole muscle. If there are areas of scar tissue, adhesions or extra tightness within an otherwise healthy muscle, or if dealing with clients who are hyperflexible, STR can be performed to reach those particular fibres or small areas not ordinarily released through more general stretches. STR is a very useful tool that can be utilized independently or incorporated within your massage treatments to make them more effective and the benefits longer lasting.

At the workshop you will learn the basic principle of STR so you can apply it to any muscle. You will be shown how to apply STR to all the main muscle groups of the body (legs, arms, back, neck, chest and pelvic area). You will start off practising these stretches independently over clothes, then incorporate them within an oiled massage.

This will be a very practical day with plenty of opportunity to try out your new hands-on skills as well as experiencing the powerful benefits of STR stretches for yourself. Please wear comfortable loose clothing, and make sure your nails are VERY SHORT, as we will be working deeply.

Suitable for anyone with basic Swedish massage skills.
