Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Essentials for Health?

Essentials for Health was founded in 1992 by Gill Tree. Since then, we have successfully trained hundreds of students to become highly skilled, confident and competent therapists. Our reputation speaks for itself - over 75% of our business comes from referrals and repeat business, and our rates of exam passes are extremely high. We believe this is the result of careful structuring and timetabling of our courses and the commitment of our highly-qualified tutors.

Who are the tutors?

Gill Tree personally chooses the tutors for Essentials for Health. Tutors are selected for their passion for their subject, a desire to pass on knowledge, an enjoyable, relaxed teaching style and a good sense of humour! They include massage therapists, aromatherapists, a sports scientist and a medical herbalist.

What if I'm no good at taking exams?

If you have never taken exams before or have never passed an exam, take heart! Many of our students are in this position and gain confidence from examination success for the first time in their lives. Regular testing, homework and one-to-one tuition to help individuals are all part of our course policy.

What sort of people go on your courses?

Men and women ranging from early twenties to people in their sixties. People often looking for a career change - accountants, nurses, secretaries, librarians, actors, managers, teachers, stock brokers and mothers, to name a few.

How large are the classes?

In practical classes, there is a maximum of 6 students to each tutor, working at any one time. This ensures that tutors develop good awareness of each student's needs and strengths.

Do I need previous experience to join the course?

No! All you need is a desire to help others, an interest in the subject and an enthusiasm to learn. Everyone will be learning subjects which are new to them - you are all in the same boat!

How long will the training last?

Depending on the course you choose, you could be qualified within eight months of making your first enquiry. We have courses that run at weekends only. This means that you are able to continue working whilst studying. If you prefer a fast-track method of studying we also run intensive courses, which run on weekdays.

What are the times of classes?

Classes are 9.30am - 6pm on each day.

How do I reserve a place on a course?

A place will be reserved for you on your chosen course once we receive your completed booking form and deposit.

Can I pay the course fee in instalments?

Yes! Depending on the course you choose, you can pay in either four or eight monthly instalments.

Is massage taught on the floor?

No. We provide couches on which all students work during the classroom sessions. Students are also given instruction as to how to massage on the floor, as most will be practising on the floor at home.

What work can I expect to find after qualifying?

The beauty of this work is that every graduate can use their qualification in whatever way they choose. Some graduates join health clubs, natural health clinics, gyms or sports clubs. Others set up in business on their own or with a partner. (Business studies is included in most course syllabi). The choice is yours!

Can I still have contact with Essentials for Health after I qualify?

Yes please! We are always delighted to hear from graduates letting us know how they are getting along! Networking is one of the best ways to expand your business, so it is good to keep in touch. We often receive calls from people looking for a therapist. If you have agreed to be entered on to our valuable Register of Therapists, we are able to put you in contact with new clients.
